A trip to Sydney always used to mean a step up from New Zealand. In the 80s, it was a chance to shop for designer clothing, shoes and handbags that you couldn’t get here. The wealthy would head to Sydney to shop for wedding or ball gowns they could be sure no one else would be wearing. You could ride on a monorail in Sydney. They had proper gang-related shootings just like in the movies, and globally recognisable celebrities like Tom and Nicole.
