The answer is not always straightforward – most of us will suffer from bloating or distension of our abdomen from time to time, but for some people it is persistent, or severe, and causes significant distress. Very occasionally, it can signify something serious going on, but more often than not it doesn’t and a simple change in diet or lifestyle can help.
