Her name was Marilyn. She was the science's teacher's wife. She may have had other virtues to qualify her as our country school's career guidance counsellor but if she did, no one ever bothered to spell them out to us. As fifth formers we paid little heed as she shared the scintillating specifics of the jobs we might one day hold: accountant, teacher, lawyer, doctor, nurse, police officer.
