An Australian teen who died trying to lose weight to make a fight limit could have created two serious issues with her water-loading technique, says New Zealand dietitian Lea Stening.
Stening said taking on lots of water then losing lots of water could both damage the body.
Jessica Lindsay, 18, was crash dieting over a week to make the weight for her second Muay Thai fight.
Her weight-loss regime included water-loading. This is where an excessive amount of water is drunk before cutting back, then running in a rubber sweatsuit and taking hot, salty baths.
