First the new apartments went up, then they welcomed a cafe into the complex at 282 Madras St in Christchurch. Table at Monks can be found in the swanky modern new building just past Latimer Square. Surrounded by empty land, the cafe frontage is easy to spot for those using the one-way system towards Bealey Ave. Monk’s is owned by chef Richard Monk, whose menu offerings are all about simple food done well. Think frittata, bruschetta, panzanella and the like made with fresh ingredients and top presentation. The cafe itself is light and airy, fitting in with its modern complex vibe, with a small courtyard on the road side.
