Big improvements are under way at Te Awa Winery. Behind the idyllic patch of forest which surrounds the restaurant and cellar door, owner Villa Maria is building a second winery which will enable it to process all its grapes locally in Hawke’s Bay, rather than sacrifice quality by trucking them to Auckland.
