Restaurant review: Martinborough Restaurant & Bar - Paddock to Plate

Located in the oldest and poshest hotel in town, the restaurant at the Martinborough Hotel has long been HQ to the local squirearchy, typically seen at dinner with their extended families on a Saturday night. Until recently the black room rose to the occasion splendidly, with its glittering crystal chandeliers, ghost-chandelier wallpaper and padded leather dining chairs.
Now, however, in accordance with its new motto "paddock to plate,“ the refitted, newly renamed Martinborough Restaurant & Bar has descended several social rungs into homely farmhouse style.
The chandeliers, both actual and pictorial, have given way to loud, gold-pierced wallpaper, as if in anticipation of a visit by President Trump. Humble bentwood chairs now surround colonial farmhouse tables, each covered with a knobbly linen table cloth and equally crumply, rustic napkins, such as might form a sharemilker’s best. All cowpat is to be hosed from your gummies before entering, please.
