Having frequent penetrative sex can improve young women’s ability to remember and recall abstract words, according to a research team at McGill University in Canada.
Their new study, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, has found that penile-vaginal intercourse (PVI) positively affects a woman’s brain. The small study consisted of 78 heterosexual women under the age of 30 and looked into the effects of sex on memory performance.
After each participant underwent memory assessments and a lifestyle questionnaire, the researchers found that frequent sex positively resulted in the growth of new tissue in the hippocampus - the area of the brain that controls emotions, memory and the nervous system.
While the results indicated that PVI increased their ability to recall abstract words, it did not affect their memory score for remembering faces, the Independent reported.
