Turns out we don't fancy big reds as much as we thought

When you next read how winter is when we turn to hearty meals, roaring fires and big red wines, cross off the last one.

We drink reds, but not a lot more than we do in summer. And we don’t drink a lot less of summer's bubblies and fruity white wines as you’d think either.

Kiwis are creatures of habit when it comes to wine buying.

Glengarry Wines general manager Liz Wheadon says the move to reds is something she often hears said but the figures only show a small shift from white to red in winter. At most, she guesses maybe a 7.5 per cent shift to reds.
