Recipes and drink matches by Leslie Hottiaux and Mo Koski from Apero

Apero is the sort of spot you can pop into for a glass of wine and a snack and be out the door in an hour, or stretch the dining experience into a long, leisurely one, depending on your mood. Ismo “Mo” Koski will look after you either way รข€“ his wine list is thoughtfully chosen, with plenty of interesting options at all price points, and his knowledge and passion shines through. He’s more than happy to open the odd special bottle, even if you’re just after a glass. Simplicity and quality are the hallmarks of Apero, a cosy and casual brick-walled, wooden-floored joint on K Rd. Co-owner (and Koski’s partner) is Leslie Hottiaux (ex-The Grove, above right), who turns out consistently excellent food. Hottiaux was recently judged the Pacific’s best young chef, and competed in the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Grand Finale in Milan in October.
- Cuisine Good Food Guide 2016 (Apero received one hat and won the Negociants New Zealand Best Wine Experience award).
