Their numbers may be dropping, but the humble sheep hasn’t lost any of its appeal, if a recent trip to Wellington Zoo is anything to go by. There, in the midst of the school holidays, two bored-looking sheep were the star turn at the petting zoo dedicated to New Zealand’s farm animals. “You can go and pat it if you like, Mum,” my daughter said encouragingly. “They won’t bite.”
