Neat Places: Tea merchants paving the way in Christchurch

The number of Christchurch's tea merchants is growing. Neat Places meets three young companies leading the movement.

MIKAKU TEA BLENDS

New Zealanders love a cuppa, there's no doubt about it, and if the taste buds are demanding a herbal variety, then Mikaku Tea Blends should be the next brand you stock in your cupboards. The creation of Banks Peninsula-based woman Leeya Warrander, the teas are completely organic and made in a small batch process so you know you're getting a quality product.

Leeya runs the 'baby' business solo, but with plans to introduce her teas to more cafes, restaurants and gift shops in the coming months, she may soon need to expand her one-woman team.

A love of gardening means many of the fruits, herbs and flowers in the blends are from Leeya's very own backyard, while the remaining ingredients are bought from local companies, ensuring your cuppa couldn't be any more NZ friendly. Some of the flavours include Lemon and Ginger White Tea, Peach Blend and Coconut Chai.

At present, you're able to enjoy a cup of the good stuff at Kadett cafe on St Asaph Street, or buy a bag of your own from Henry Trading in Lyttelton.
